Since 2004, Don Lewis and Narelle King have been making wine in Priorat, Spain. Their immersion within the classic European wine regions and varietals sparked their interest in how these varietals could be grown and made in their own regions within Central Victoria. The grapes for this wine come from two main vineyards, one off the deep red Cambrian soil, and the other from tougher more gravelly ground. The first gives rich, chocolatey and earthy flavours whilst the other has more highly fragrant notes with good acid and sweet fruit. 100% Shiraz
Black fruit and liquorice aromas come first through on the nose. As it opens eucalyptus and mint start to show. On the palate soft black fruit, tobacco, white pepper and vanilla are dominant. This Shiraz is well-balanced with nice silky tannins and potential for aging.
Pairs well with steaks roasted or grilled, also ideal with meats like chicken, beef or lamb barbequed. Slightly caramelised vegetables such as carrots will be a great match.
Don Lewis, teams up with Narelle King to create Tar & Roses. Their rich and fruit driven Heathcote Shiraz has quickly become a favourite of many.
