In the northern Rhone valley, The Flacher family has been making wine in Charnas since 1806. Gilles is now managing an estate of 7 Ha, mainly on Saint-Joseph AOC. For about ten years, Gilles has been modernising the domain. The wines are all single-vineyard production situated in and around the commune of Charnas - midway between Lyon and Valence - on the western banks of the Rhone. A large majority of the vineyards are set on terraces which makes most mechanisation difficult, if not impossible. Thus, much of the vineyard work continues to be done by hand.
Fair yellow robe, legs visible. Crème patisserie, vanilla, honeycomb airs show here – it is a supple and quite generous bouquet. The palate starts with attractive freshness, a true mineral nature to it. There are peach notes in the flavour, floral notes as well. It finishes without hesitation. It is lightly oaked with not excess. Nicely drinkable, and it ends on some extra weight.
A perfect match for cold seafood (shrimp, lobster), foie gras, poultry and unpasteurized cheeses.
A very aromatic, beautifully balance Condrieu made from the viognier Grape.
